The Experience
I’m Tripin
Back in March of ’06 , I was told to pack my bags , I was going to pick up a car via the BMW European Delivery program. I was able to spec out the vehicle as well as choose the color , exactly the way my customers were able to . I was also able to pick a date that worked best with my schedule.
I needed to bring someone with me , my lovely wife couldn’t get the time off , my kids were too young to come along , so I asked my only brother .
You can see the family resemblance .At the time ,he was living in Maryland , so I thought it would be a good bonding experience for the two of us since our lives have gone in different directions and we hadn’t spent time together in years .

My friends wife works for one of the Airlines at O’Hare and they were able to bump one of our seats up to Business class , so I offered it to my brother so he would be more comfortable.
The flight over was uneventful so I was able to sleep for a few hours before we arrived. When I awoke , I looked out my window and saw this………
Getting off the plane at about 6:30am , we decided to take the train into the city and then to our Hotel ( we knew we could check in early! ) . This is one thing you need to see at the airport , I believe it’s in Terminal 2 going toward the trains .
The first thing we saw coming out of the Marienplatz looked like this……
If you want to taste some of the local delicacies, there’s plenty to choose from right around the corner at the open air marke.

| Tomorrow is collection day for our car that was built to our specifications . We are picking it up at the delivery center on Freimann street that had been in use for about 40 years. |

| We went back to the Hotel , parked the car and then headed to the Museum of Contemporary Art . They had some very unique exhibits , especially the one on Nazi Germany . |
| The following morning , we were able to get an early start and arrived at Dachau Concentration camp on the outskirts of the town of Dachau . There’s not much to say, but plenty to see and read about and this was one of the smaller camps . |
This was just weird…..
Off to Salzburg ,Austria…… Don’t forget to get your toll sticker and safety vest when you enter Austria.
We left the following day, on our way to Prague . It’s about a 3 hour ride and about 1 hour to get to the border where you have to get another toll sticker and change your money.
Now back to more driving fun and the Navigation shows us arriving in Prague in about 2 hours .
| Then we were surprised to have walked into this…..look at the license plate |
We left the beautiful city of Prague and headed to Cologne , our longest drive , about 6 hours. The plan was just to overnight in Cologne , spend a few hours looking around the next morning , stopping to see the Dom one of the oldest and largest Cathedrals in Europe . Then off to Amsterdam a few hours later.
Amsterdam …………………….
A great way to see things when it’s raining outside…………..
And the Rembrandt museum……
Afterward , we stopped at the Van Gough museum ( no photos allowed ) and then to Anne Franks to see how she hid and lived with her family as well as another in a very small space above her fathers store …………..
Then it was time to bring the car to be dropped off so it could begin the journey home.
All I could think of was " What A Trip ! " About 1670km in 6 days
