Eligibility,
Restrictions and Documents Required
To qualify for the BMW European Delivery
Program, you must meet the following
requirements:
-
You must be a legal resident of the United
States
-
18 years of age or older with a valid
driver’s license
-
Place your order through an authorized BMW
center. Note: Z4 and X5 models are not
eligible for the BMW European Delivery Program
because BMW builds these vehicles at its
Spartanburg, SC, plant.
-
You may stay in Europe for up to six months
from the day you pick up your vehicle.
(there is a 16%
penalty tax if your car is not exported
within the 6-month period). Cars financed or
leased through BMW Financial Services must
be exported within 90 days.
-
Your new BMW is restricted to private use by
tourists. Persons working in Europe on
temporary or long-term assignments are not
eligible for the special customs license
plates issued under the European Delivery
Program.
Financing Your Car
You need to know that not all the banks are willing to work with you to finance your BMW European Delivery. It's not that they don't wan t to, it's just that it doesn't fit in their typical loan application. The biggest potential pitfal here is that most banks would like to have the title in hand within about 3 months. As you are required to pay for your car 14 days prior to pick-up and it takes another 6-8 weeks to get the car back to you, the bank might not receive the title quick enough. Don't get discouraged by this, there are still many other people that managed to finance their car though a bank, but it is recommended that you will fully explain the situation with the bank to avoid potential problems and setbacks.
Finance through BMW Financial Services
You can finance your car through the BMW FS. When you finance your lease through BMW Financial, you pay the first month's payment and BMW pays the second month as your car will most likely be on the boat during the second month. The money factor is increased by 0.0003 for ED leases. Always remember, the residual is calculated using US MSRP, not ED MSRP, which will lower your monthly payment, this is another great thing about European Delivery.
Save Money On Your Air Fare
Lufthansa and BMW joinded in a partenrship that offers a discounted air fare. Basically, you can book a round-trip in Economy Class from the U.S. to Munich and your companion flies free! This is in your advantage especially during high travel season when you may be able to save money on airline tickets through this program. See the conditions for this offer Lufthansa 2-1. An advantage of using this program is that you won't actually pay for your tickets until after you get your VIN, but you can reserve your tickets (and lock in the airfare) well in advance of that. If you're traveling outside the high season, then you might be able to find better deals through your travel agent or online websites.
Join the BMCCA and save more money
You can save even more money by signing up with BMWCCA. A 12-months membership will cost you only $40, but the BMW Car Club of American (BMW CCA) offers a rebate to members of the car club after one year of membership. The rebate ranges from $500 to $1500 depending on the BMW model you have purchased. You can see the terms and conditions on the BMWCCA website
Remember, you have 60 days from purchase/delivery of the car to submit the materials. To be safe, you should assume that this is 60 days from delivery in Munich.
Always leep a copy of the materials you send, use a shipping company that provides you with a tracking number, that way, if BMW does not receive your materials in a timely fashion, you can prove you sent them on time.

NEW and Important: Winter Driving and Summer/Performance Tires
Less than two years ago, BMW endorsed the German rule whereby it is illegal to drive on summer tires on the autobahn if it has snowed. If you do so and get into an accident, you would probably be considered liable and could find yourself possibly without insurance coverage. If you have ordered a car with Summer/Performance Tires, it is advisable to rent some snow chains during your trip, particularly if driving through Europe's higher alpine regions, but they will only be useful in emergency situations or for short drives, as driving speeds are then very limited and extended use could damage your tires.
In order to best navigate winter road conditions, to travel safe and abide by the law, then EDWINTERTIRES.COM offer an economical rental program, allowing (European Delivery) buyers of vehicles factory-fitted with Summer tires to temporarily fit Winter tires (already mounted on attractive alloy wheels) so that they can enjoy a safer vacation. They provide complimentary storage of your original equipment and their depot is within five minutes drive from the car transportation company Harms GmbH, in Munich . For more information, pricing or to reserve your tires on-line, visit their website www.edwintertires.com
