The Man, The Myth, The Legend
His journey began almost 20 years ago at a large volume Toyota dealer. After five years, he decided he needed to make the change to a multi-line dealer. And then the hunt began for finding his niche. It wasn’t long before he found His home; Motor Werks a multi-line dealer.
Part of his job had him learn about the BMW Performance Center. Immediately, he found an interest in the program. His interest in the program was so great, that he began promoting the program to anyone that wanted to listen. One by one, it started to grow. Around this same time he began telling about the European Delivery program more. he decided to create a full blown web site dedicated to European Delivery to help people understand the process better. With the help of two of his customers , edBMW was born. He took it upon himself to travel to Woodcliff Lake, NJ to spend a few days with the talented staff of the European Delivery office. He did this in order to gain a better grasp on the entire process of the European Delivery
After speaking with one of the owners at Motor Werks, he was able to get the privilege of experiencing the European Delivery process first hand. And he did it in style! He picked up a BMW 750 LI at the old Freimann delivery center location. He had an experience he would never forget. He was able to have a great bonding experience with his much older brother. And he and his brother cannot stop talking about the trip to this day.
As time progressed, his curiosity was sparked by the fact that BMW was planning to spend over 800 million Euros to build a new delivery center (The Welt). It was expected to get over 500,000 visitors in the first year (It wound up with over 2 million). When ground was first broken in 2000, BMW did not know how the economy would take a turn for the worse around the time it had opened. They officially opened their doors on October 22nd, 2007. He and his family were invited to go to the opening of the Welt, where three of his customers were picking up their car that day, two of whom he had never met, since they lived in other states. He would never have met them since quite a few redeliveries occur at the BMW Performance center . That same evening, BMW North America hosted a dinner party at a sheik bistro in downtown Munich. In attendance, was the Director of European Delivery for North America, along with the Head of BMW sales for Europe, along with about 60 other people picking up their cars that week. That gave him the opportunity to meet six other sets of customers who he would never have met, had he not been at that party.
In the Spring of 2008, he and his eldest son flew to Spartenburg, SC to pick up an X3 for Mrs. Robinson at the BMW Performance Center. When they were picked up in the morning and brought to the performance center, they were split up into two groups; those taking their delivery for the first time and those taking redelivery from their European Delivery. The first order of business was to show the layout of the days events. First up; the slalom course! "Drive it like you stole it!" –Anonymous. This was followed by the always exciting ABS testing. "Jam that break pedal like you are trying to break it off"-Donnie Isley. Then there was the skid pad, the off-road course in an X3/X5/X6 . Lunch at the BMW Performance Center with the drivers, and as a bonus, one of the best thrill ride a person could take; a hot lap with one of the amazing drivers in an M5, where they drive, you ride, and laugh all the way down the track while they look as if they could be eating a sub sandwich/ And as the final cap of the day, the car is presented to you clean and ready to go. And heading North, through the Blue Ridge Mountains, Ashville is the place to see.
Irv was also featured in an article in the Wall Street Journal online covering European Delivery for all of the brands available at that time and interviewed two of his customers, this is one story first story. A short time after that , a National News service came to Motor Werks and interviewed both Irv and one of his customers
Irv has also taken the initiative to take the show on the road , O’fest in Texas was one of the early trips , then the following year to O’Fest in Grand Rapids, Mi in groups from 10 to 200 people at one time.
Motor Werks agreed to host a party kicking off the European Delivery Program , giving away round trip tickets for two people to Europe ,no strings attached as well as gifts for everyone that showed up. Surprisingly , over 140 people came out on a snowy night in December , to enjoy food ,drinks ,music and stories from customers who had recently come back from their journey.
Irv has consistently been one of the top European Delivery advisors for BMW North America as well as the Performance Center for the past 5 years.
He has also had some help at various times to achieve this
